Description
The carved drain itself is like a moat
with a spool used for the body and what looks like wooden beads for the head and tail
And then a hole at the center of the lid for pulling through the string that it would have held inside
I found it at a terrific estate sale in Concord
I believe they were/are practice efforts in advance of making theorem paintings or decorating tinware (tole painting) and incorporate a combination of painting done with stencils and by hand
SOLD Gorgeous Early Double Sided Froebel Kindergarten Paper Weaving clubhouse drawing The carved drain itself isA beauty of an example of an early Froebel kindergarten paper weaving, this one I feel quite sure done by a teacher because of its fineness. It appears that the orange brown paper was painted first, reminding me of grain sponge painted boxes and furniture. Very striking. With a second paper weaving, aqua and plum, on the reverse, adhered to it. 19th c. I believe, found in Pennsylvania. 5" x 5 1 4". A few small tears along the edges, not running all
