I think I love portraits of houses as much as portraits of people

perhaps because finding the first reminded me what satisfying things these are

mid/2nd half 18th century

and seems as though he was meant to function as a door stop

I found this one on a day at Brimfield when I had come across a sequence of nice old carved animals that were priced beyond what I could justify happily my patience was rewarded. Photos give a good sense, including of its very soulful feeling carved out eyes. The mane and tail I believe are made of straw bristles, with the way the mane falls to one side of the neck I think especially beautiful looks like it was adhered via small holes cut
