Cypripedium Axel Matteuccia each ending with clusters ofCypripedium 'Axel' is a 1998 hybrid, first created by Sweedish orchid breeder, Svante Malmgren, who crossed Cypripedium parviflorum and Cypripedium tibeticum. The showy hybrid produces large pouches atop 18" tall stalks. Each flower is composed of three violet twisted sepals, and a pouch which is white, flushed nicely with burgundy. Maintenance: Lady slipper orchids are maintenance free in the garden once they are established in the correct growing
